By speaking with a certain NPC in any of the three city-states, you can create a linkshell, enabling you to communicate with others regardless of location. You may have as many as eight active linkshells at any given time, each allowing a maximum of 128 players.
* In FFXIV: ARR, there will be no icon next to your display name indicating your linkshell.

Grand Companies The Grand Companies are organizations founded and governed by the city-states of Eorzea. By enlisting in a Grand Company, players can undertake a variety of tasks.
Enlisting in a Grand Company
By making sufficient progress in the main scenario, players will be able to enlist in one of Eorzea's three Grand Companies.

Grand Company and rank can be confirmed under the Profile tab of the Character window.

* All Grand Companies are available as of phase 3.

Company Seals
After joining a Grand Company, players will be able to earn company seals, which can be exchanged for equipment and items by speaking with the quartermaster of the organization to which you belong
* Company seals can be earned by participating in FATEs regardless of which city-state they take place in.

You can view the amount of seals in your possession under the Currency tab of the Character window.

Also, by selecting the gil icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you can switch between displaying gil and company seals currently in your possession.

Grand Company Leves
Company seals are also awarded for completing company leves, which are issued by the company leve officers stationed across Eorzea.

Supply and Provisioning Missions
Players can earn experience points and company seals by crafting or gathering items requested by the grand company quartermasters and delivering them.
* The requested items change daily.

Once obtained, the chocobo whistle can be found in the fourth tab of your inventory.

Chocobo Companions
After acquiring a personal chocobo, speak with the Wandering Minstrel located in front of any of the three the Grand Company headquarters to gain the ability to summon your chocobo to battle. Once summoned, you can use several commands in the Companions section of the Action & Traits menu to control your chocobo.

Summoning your chocobo companion requires gysahl greens, which can be purchased from select shops.

Free Companies Free companies are organizations much like grand companies, but are organized and managed by players. They can be formed and joined regardless of grand company allegiance.
Forming a Free Company
In order to form a free company, players must first be level 25 or higher, and speak with the Order of Independent Companies (OIC) administrator at one of the three Grand Companies to obtain a free company petition. Once obtained, signatures from three other players are required before it can be submitted.

To request a player's signature for your petition, target the player and select the Invite to New Company subcommand. You can only request signatures from players who are not affiliated with and have not already received an invitation from another free company.
* Only a set number of petition requests can be made at any given time.
